Climate Counts: Activating the Choices and Voices of the Climate-Conscious Consumer

Monday March 3rd, 2008, 4pm
GM Room, 55 Hillhouse Avenue, New Haven

Climate Counts (www.climatecounts.org) is a non-profit campaign that scores companies annually on the basis of their voluntary action to reverse climate change. The Climate Counts Company Scorecard originally launched in June 2007 helps people make climate-conscious purchasing and investing choices and encourages them to urge the world’s most well-known companies to take the issue of climate change seriously. Project Director Wood Turner will discuss the role of Climate Counts in engaging consumers and shareholders on the importance of addressing climate change and in motivating companies to move beyond risk management in their environmental strategies.

About Wood Turner

Wood is project director of Climate Counts, a non-profit organization launched by organic yogurt pioneer Stonyfield Farm that scores companies annually on the basis of their voluntary action to reverse climate change. His experience spans the for-profit and non-profit sectors and is unified by his focus on corporate social responsibility, environmental stewardship, and issues and advocacy.

Before joining Climate Counts, Wood was a senior account strategist and lead writer with a Seattle advertising and strategic communications agency, working on behalf of my public and private sector clients including Flexcar and the Seattle Mayor’s Green Ribbon Commission on Climate Protection (associated with the US Mayors Climate Protection Agreement).

He has worked in public affairs and in advocacy, having developed Urban Ecology's "Blueprint for a Sustainable Bay Area," a leading-edge vision presenting actionable ways for non-activists to live with purpose. He also built and managed an e-magazine teaching international audiences about constructive innovations by businesses, organizations, and individuals.

Wood holds a bachelor’s degree from Duke University and a master’s degree in urban planning from the University of Washington.
