RESEARCH POSITION
The Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy is looking for academic-term research assistants to help with research and outreach work. These positions will require about 5-10 hours per week, with flexibility in terms of hours worked. Proven writing and editing skills are strongly preferred. Some positions will require data analysis experience. Positions may evolve around individual experience and skills. Research projects for the coming year include:
Environmental Performance Measurement:
The Center has a 10-year history of developing indices to rank how well countries manage their natural resources. On-going projects in this area for this year include:
• A 2009 update to the 2008 Environmental Performance Index;
• A China Environmental Performance Index that ranks environmental management among the Chinese provinces;
• A Water Quality index on a country basis;
• A Corporate Environmental Index; and
• A State Climate Change Index that will assess the climate change policies and impacts in the United States.
Demonstrated skill with data analysis required. Experience with Excel is also required and knowledge of statistical software is a plus. Work will include: seeking new datasets and refining existing datasets, data analysis, writing and editing, online content development, and supporting the Center team in hosting international workshops.
Environmental Attitudes and Behavior: work with our team to conduct and analyze surveys on attitudes on the environment, particularly climate change. This year's projects will include a three-part survey on attitudes on climate change in the United States, and survey on attitudes on climate change in China. Quantitative skills a plus, excellent writing required.
Global Environmental Governance: provide background research and logistical assistance for an international conference on the Past, Present, and Future of Global Environmental Governance. Excellent research, writing, and editing skills required. Experience with event organizing a plus.
Innovation and Environment: assist the research team with laying the foundation for a new program that will examine innovative policy techniques for engaging stakeholders - particularly the business sector - in addressing climate change.
All research assistants will be expected to perform some administrative tasks, including filing, answering phones, data entry, etc...
OUTREACH POSITION
The Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy is looking for academic-term research assistants to help with outreach work. These positions will require about 5-10 hours per week, with flexibility in terms of hours worked.
Support for the Center's outreach efforts to support external communication effort - including writing and editing for the media, for Center's website and policy brief series, and other key communications pieces. Work may relate to Environmental Performance Measurement, Innovation and Environment, Environmental Governance, and Climate Change Resonance. Strong writing and editing skills are required, and experience with published materials is strong preferred.
Positions may evolve around individual experience and skills. All research assistants will be expected to perform some administrative tasks, including filing, answering phones, data entry, etc...
DESIGN POSITION
The Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy is looking for an academic-term research assistant to help with graphic design work for outreach materials. This position will require approximately 5-10 hours per week, with flexibility in terms of hours worked. Work will involve designing materials and posters for events, working with the website design and maintaining basic content, supporting staff on general outreach activities, and other projects as they arise.
Graphic design experience required.
All research assistants will be expected to perform some administrative tasks, including filing, answering phones, data entry, etc...
